About these quotes: Prices are the lowest monthly premiums in our sample for non-smoking women applying at ages 65, 70 and 75, one ZIP code per state, no discounts.
Quotes for ages 70 and 75 assume the applicant qualifies for the insurer's quoted rate class. Medical underwriting may apply, depending on the applicant's circumstances and state rules.
These prices are not guaranteed offers of coverage, and they aren't projections of what someone who enrolls at 65 will pay later.
Massachusetts, Minnesota and Wisconsin use different Medigap plan structures, so they aren't included.
How Does Plan G Cost Change With Age?
Age can affect Plan G premiums, but the impact depends on how an insurance company prices its policies.
Some insurers use attained-age pricing, where premiums generally rise as policyholders get older. Others use issue-age or community-rated pricing, where age affects premiums differently.
Our table shows quotes for new applicants at ages 65, 70 and 75. They show how prices can differ by age, but they shouldn't be used to predict future renewal premiums.
When you compare companies, look at both today's premium and the insurer's history of rate increases.
One Thing We'd Watch
A 75-year-old's new-applicant quote isn't the same as what someone who enrolled at 65 will pay at 75.
Someone who keeps a policy for ten years gets that company's age increases plus any approved rate increases along the way, which can land above or below a new 75-year-old's quote.
How Do 2027 Quotes Compare With 2026?
At age 65, we compared each state's lowest 2027 quote with the lowest quote we pulled on August 12, 2026 for the same ZIP code.
The lowest quote fell in 11 of 12 states and rose in 1.
Lowest quote at 65: 2026 vs. 2027
2026 2027
New York$396$371
Pennsylvania$228$187
Connecticut$325$296
Florida$223$201
Texas$218$173
Georgia$217$191
Ohio$184$143
Illinois$200$170
Michigan$200$176
California$208$205
Arizona$244$199
Washington$315$324
The lowest quote can come from a different company each year, so these changes aren't price increases or decreases by any one insurer.
These are new-applicant prices. Your renewal rate on an existing policy comes from your own company and can move differently.

What Plan G Covers
Plan G pays most of the cost-sharing Original Medicare leaves you with, such as the Part A deductible, coinsurance and Part B excess charges.
The main thing you pay is the Part B deductible ($283 in 2026; CMS hasn't announced the 2027 amount yet). Routine dental, vision and hearing aids aren't covered.
High-Deductible Plan G is a separate option with lower premiums and a $3,050 deductible in 2027.
How to Find a Competitive Plan G Rate
- Compare several companies for the same plan. Plan G's core benefits don't change; the price does.
- Buy during Open Enrollment if you can. In your six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, companies can't turn you down or charge more for health conditions.
- Look at rate history, not just today's price. The cheapest company this year isn't always the cheapest in three years. These are the companies we'd compare first.
- Keep your current policy until the new one is in effect. Outside protected enrollment periods, companies may use medical underwriting, so don't cancel until new coverage is approved and has started.
The Bottom Line on Plan G Costs in 2027
Plan G continues to offer comprehensive coverage and predictable out-of-pocket costs for people with Original Medicare.
Premiums vary by location, age and company, but the standardized benefits make comparing them straightforward.
If you're new to Medicare, your Open Enrollment Period is the best time to compare companies.
If you already have Plan G, reviewing current rates can show whether another company offers better value. Just remember that switching may require medical underwriting.
